Michael Jones

President

I did my first Kids of Steel triathlon in 1990 after watching Mark Allen and Dave Scott go head-to-head on Kona. I completed my Bucket List Ironman for my 40th birthday back in 2018 in Wisconsin.  By being in the Saskatoon Triathlon Club I hope to pay it forward for all the support the tri community has provided me.

Patrick Lapointe

Vice-President

I started training for triathlons at age 69. While many of my peers were giving up on their bodies. I thought instead I would challenge mine. I am a long-term road biker and cross-country skier. I am now 74 and have done 4 outdoor sprint triathlons and an indoor one.  I very much enjoy the triathlon community and look forward to working with the STCI board to keep it strong.

Michelle Brummond

Secretary

I’ve been volunteering with the Saskatoon Triathlon Club since 2019, when my daughter first introduced me to the organization. Our journey began that year, volunteering together at the BCD, and we’ve since had the opportunity to contribute at various events, often at the registration desk or at the finish line. You’ll usually spot me in my black Realtor windbreaker jacket. The Saskatoon Triathlon Club offers a wonderful opportunity to participate at your own pace and stay active, making it an experience I highly recommend to anyone!

Terra Andrews

Treasurer

Even though all said that crossfitters sink (and I do!), I decided to try a new sport and joined JTI in 2022. I fell in love with triathlon (not so much the swimming) and the wonderful community! I did JTI again in 2023 and joined the board as a Member at Large. I thoroughly enjoyed the year. So much so that I wanted to be more involved and stepped up to be treasurer. I am looking forward to another fun fabulous triathlon season!

Past President

I got involved in triathlon through my dear friend and training partner, Leanne. Although I was extremely hesitant and nervous in the beginning, this dissolved upon realizing this is one of the kindest, most supportive, and most encouraging communities I’ve come across yet. The motto is that you are good, fast, and fit enough, exactly as you are.

Nicole Shoaf

Mentor

A work colleague was the swim coach of the Just Tri-It program and she encouraged me to join in the spring of 2015. It was a rough start but the group encouragement really helped me pull through. I grew to love all three sports and soon participated in longer events – but what I really discovered was a love of organizing triathlon events!

My favourite part of triathlon is the Just Tri-It program. I’m so fortunate to be able to work with amazing volunteers who help bring a safe atmosphere for women to join triathlon, to push and to succeed. Even better is that those women take a new sense of accomplishment and volunteerism back into their personal lives and the wider Saskatoon community.

Editor’s note: Nicole functions as the mentor to the rest of the board because she has all the answers to the questions we have from her years of involvement. In addition to having completed multiple triathlons (super sprint, sprint, standard, duathlon and half Ironman) her experience includes:

  • Just Tri-It Program Director (2020-present)
  • Technical Official (2018-present)
  • Honorary Lifetime Member of Saskatoon Triathlon Club Recipient (2021)
  • YWCA Woman of Distinction in Health & Athletics Winner (2020)
  • Triathlon Saskatchewan Builder of the Year Recipient (2019)
  • Triathlon Saskatchewan Director (2016-2019)
  • Saskatoon Triathlon Club Director (2015-2016), Vice-President (2016-2017), President (2019-2019), Past President (2019-2020)

Aurora Lepe Zepeda

Marketing Coordinator

I grew up running and swimming but didn’t find my passion for triathlon until 2023 when I decided to challenge myself to train to complete the Frank Dunn Triathlon. I quickly fell in love with the community and the many ways this sport has improved my life. I am looking forward to more races,  training events, and opportunities to build the triathlon community in Saskatoon!

Christina Denis

Marketing Strategist

Hey! My name is Christina and I’m excited to join the Saskatoon Triathlon Club. While I’ve never tackled a triathlon solo, I’m gearing up for my first one this summer as the team’s cyclist. Ironically, I used to hate biking as a teenager, but now I can’t get enough of it. When I’m not cycling, you’ll find me enjoying any outdoor activity that comes my way.

Looking forward to an awesome season with this amazing community!

I found my love for triathlon through the Just Tri-It program! Since starting with triathlon I have found myself participating in a variety of training programs and events. My favourite thing about the sport is how many welcoming and encouraging people I have had the opportunity to meet and train within the community.

Just Tri-It was where my wild road of life collided with the Saskatoon Triathlon Club. Awesome women supporting and challenging each other to get out there and embrace the powerfulness of our bodies. Since then I have participated in triathlon events, become more committed than ever to my health and fitness, invited friends and colleagues into this magical sport and joined the board. I am grateful for STCI!
